Botany Kids Summer Workshops | 3-5yrs

  • The Botany Shop 909 Portage Ave. South Bend United States (map)

We’re off to explore all things gardens and plants from bugs to seeds to compost at the Botany Kids Summer Workshops! These one-day, three-hour workshops are designed for children ages 3 years old* to children entering 2nd grade in the 2025/26 school year. Your child will get a rich, hands-on experience exploring the natural world around them, learning from farmers in our community and ways they can make a difference in their own part of the world. Register for one, two or all three workshops – each month will be a new experience! Includes a snack.

*children may not be in diapers or pull-ups and must be able to use the bathroom independently.

Every fruit and vegetable we eat started as a tiny seed. In this workshop, we’ll take an up-close look at various seeds, learn about the growth cycle and create our own sprout jar! We’ll learn how to grow plants from seeds at home and what seeds we can harvest, sprout and plant from the foods we eat every day.

·         Book: From Seed to Plan

·         Explore: Nature walk to collect seeds that we find (acorns; seed pods; etc.)

·         Create: create a seed sprout jar and make seed art

·         Community Connection: visit Sun Choke or Botany Field to talk about the life cycle of the seeds in the garden

·         STEM activity: explore seeds with tweezers and magnifying glasses; compare/contrast; graphing seeds based on various attributes
